The One of a Kind Drumline will give a free screening of the documentary The Trash Trail and perform cadences at the Appreciation Night concert event which will showcase high-enery performances, and also highlight the students’ community service and the program’s efforts to empower youth to become caretakers of their community.

To date the group has performed for over 1 million enthusiastic audience members across the Pacific Northwest. The students hope to inspire audience members that each of us is capable of achieving what we desire.

The Trash Trail documentary was created by Drumline Director Eddie Esparza and features members of the One of a Kind Drumline as Esparza leads them on the trail to discover where exactly our trash and recycling goes. Esparza says “Our path goes from the hand to the can to the land.” Esparza and his students follow our trash and recycling to the curb, to the trucks to the Central Transfer Station where the recycling is sorted and the trash continues into a compactor where it is compacted into large containers and then loaded aboard barges and up the mighty Columbia River to it’s final resting place in Boardman, Oregon.

Esparza states “It was a powerful eye opening experience for all of us and one I don’t think any of us will ever forget. The story is one that will make people think twice before throwing something away and it is my hope that it will empower people with a greater sense of the impact each of us has on our planet and the lives of future generations to come”.
